For more than two years, we’ve been quietly developing what we believe is the ultimate SW-51 upgrade since inception of the program. At the latest Mustang Fightertown Gathering, we finally pulled the curtain back on a project that takes authenticity and performance to an entirely new level.

In partnership with MT-Propeller, we’re proud to introduce the all-new MTV-22 – a propeller with actual P-51 roots!

Built from true P-51 DNA –
The new MTV-22 was designed exclusively for ScaleWings – and it’s directly rooted in the original P-51 Mustang. Avia Propeller (part of the MT-Propeller group) holds the Hamilton Standard license to manufacture aluminum replacement blades for the North American P-51, and has produced original-style replacement blades under that license for years. MT-Propeller also designed, certified, and manufactured the full-scale composite propeller for the legendary North American P-82 Twin Mustang – a propeller that can also be installed on the North American P-51.

Building on that lineage and know-how, MT created the MTV-22 for the SW-51 by replicating and scaling the original 1940s Hamilton Standard P-51 blade and squared-tip geometry.

Why this is a game changer –

With a squared-off tip – licensed from Hamilton Standard and made by MT, the makers of the original P-51 blades – this prop gives the SW-51 that unmistakable, aggressive WWII fighter presence
A big step up in ramp appeal and thrust
At 79 inches it’s impossible to miss. The blades are significantly wider than the previous model, delivering 33% more blade surface area
Added Performance
More thrust translates directly into results. We’re seeing roughly a 15% improvement in climb rate – about +300 ft/min.

Timeline –
The new prop is being introduced as an option beginning with serial number 052. Current SW- 51 owners with Rotax 916iS can also upgrade their aircraft with the new MTV-22 prop and spinner and enjoy enhanced performance and aesthetic benefits.

With the advent of the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) standards, the ScaleWings SW-51 is rapidly becoming general aviation’s most dynamic aircraft – more than 20 were booked in 2025, and a total of 62 have been sold since the aircraft was introduced in the US just over 3 years ago.
